Premiere: Alec Shaw “You Get Me High” / “u get me hi”

Seattle, WA’s Alec Shaw released his album, Thinking Places back in July. He is following that up by releasing a digital 7″ of two b-sides, “You Get Me High” and “u get me hi.” Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the two tracks.

“You Get Me High” and “u get me hi” are two sides of the same coin. The first is a slick pop song with jangly guitars, atmospheric synths, and Shaw’s upbeat, soulful vocals. The second is an lo-fi acoustic version of the song. Slow and more downtrodden, it has the exact same lyrics but with a completely different feel. Shaw’s voice still strives for the same notes but it has a different timbre. Releasing the two versions of the same single gives us a fascinating look into the songwriting process and how some different production choices can make all the difference in a song’s meaning.
