Munich production team Midiflash dropped their second single off their mixtape, Pleased to Beat You. The track features Boston’s M-Dot, Queens’ Nutso, and Denmark’s Mr. Malchau.

New: Steely Chan remixes Little Dragon’s “Ritual Union”

Up until last summer, Steely Chan was releasing a remix a week but as the mashup boom happened, they migrated more in the direction of mashup and blends. Now that mashups have jumped the shark, it is nice to hear Steely Chan get back to remixes. This time they take on Little Dragon‘s “Ritual Union,” adding dub riddims and reggae guitars.

TeeTs sent me his latest mashup, “Wynter’s Better With You.” It does not sound like much of a mashup. If you’re not familiar with the vocal parts, you would swear they were recorded to go over these instrumentals. It is an incredibly smooth take on the dance-pop mashup genre.

I have been rocking remixes from Two Friends for a while now. Their latest remix is of Coldplay‘s “Lost.” The dubstep take on the piano ballad really shows the track in a whole new light.

I did not anticipate posting about a band called Freedom Fry because honestly, that’s a dumb name for a band and any band that would name themselves that is probably not very good. It turns out, Freedom Fry is actually kind of good. Their single, “Earthquake” will be released on Valentine’s Day but you can stream it now. The track is a combination of minimalistic instrumentation, driving drums, and sweetly sung female vocals.

New: Bloodroot Kids “Lightning”

I got an email from this band called the Bloodroot Kids asking “Do you ever put up completely unheard-of bands on your site?” All I could think was “obviously these kids have never seen my bog.” But after getting over feeling slightly indignant, I listened to their new self-released EP and decided to post them. The EP’s opening track is “Lightning,” a track that has a folktronic sound similar to James Yuill with the harmonies of Fleet Foxes.

New: Anthm “Stolen Whips”

Manhattan-based rapper, Anthm has been releasing a song a week for a minute now. When you release a song a week, it is hard to keep quality high. Take his new track “Stolen Whips” for example. ANTHM does not necessarily shine on the track with his 2pac-lite flow but what makes the track special is the Spanish flamenco-inspire production from Timeless.

New: DJ BMilk “Bouncy Cobra Flashback (Hardwell // Kelis // Calivin Harris // Aretha Franklin)”

I woke up to a new mashup from Piscataway’s DJ Bmilk. The track is called “Bouncy Cobra Flashback.” For the most part, it is a standard pop vocals over dance instrumental but there is something about his use of Aretha Franklin vocals that makes this one special.

New: Brenton Brown “Paradise”

Miami-based rapper, Brenton Brown took Coldplay‘s “Paradise” and rapped over it. Sound cool? It is. I like that he juxtaposes the sunniness of the track’s chorus with gritty lyrics about a very non-utopian existent. It works well.
