Cloud Nothings “I’m Not Part Of Me”

cloud-nothings-im-not-part-of-me“I’m learning how to be here and nowhere else” sings Cloud Nothings frontman Dylan Baldi on the band’s newest single. It’s a note of optimism and a stark departure from the band’s largely “fuck everything” approach on 2012’s Attack on Memory. Beyond the new optimism, the band’s sound is a bit less muddy and certainly more classifiable as pop rock. Although I was impressed but not blown away by Attack on Memory, this single has me pretty stoked for Cloud Nothings’ 2014 offering, Here and Nowhere Else. “I’m Not A Part of Me” suggests a more varied sound that isn’t always dominated by the lo-fi rock aesthetic. Besides a development in sound, this single is just sort of beautifully. Its lyrical impact, compositional complexity, and impressive vocal performance make it one of the most exciting singles of the young year and ample reason to move Here and Nowhere Else up on your mental “Anticipated Records” list.
