San Diego, California’s The Color Forty Nine are preparing to release their debut self-titled EP on June 15th. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the video for the album’s lead single “I Will.”
Formed by the bassist of little white teeth and maquiladora, Phil Beaumont takes up baritone ukulele on the album. The Color Forty Nine is rounded out by Jason Hooper, the drummer of Black Heart Procession who plays bass on the album, Matt Resovich who plays guitar for the Album Leaf but takes up violin and Casiotone for this album, and John Meeks, typically the front man to his own band, falls back on his drum-core days to fill out the rhythm section.
On “I Will,” Phil Beaumont’s deep baritone voice and writerly lyrics standout. Beaumont croons about the banalities of everyday life which will befall him. He sings about meeting new friends and drinking with old friends over the esoteric instrumentation.
The video, directed by Grant Reinero, was shot at Bar Copacabana in Tijuana, Mexico. Shot in black and white, the video utilizes close ups and slow motion to enhance the melancholic lyrics. It’s a gorgeous video to accompany a beautiful song.
