The Criticals traded in their studio in rural Tennessee for a new spot in Nashville to record their fifth single, “Just for the Weekend.” Verses with funky guitars and disco drums give way to a Strokes-inspired chorus. The song builds to a dreamy bridge with tremolo-soaked guitar arpeggios and the repeated line “I wish that we could talk it out.” Showing the concept of the song “the story of two people in a relationship, trying to make it work, but the boundaries are too restrictive.”
