It is hard to tell if you should call Dreamaway a super group. The band consists of Ben Talmi who in addition to his solo material did string arrangements for Wild Nothing, Cale Hawkins who has his own solo career, Dan Drohan who was a session musician with Maggie Rogers and Tei Shi, Margaret Sohn aka Miss Grit, and Kate Steinberg who has worked Emily Prime and Motionless In White. None of them have much name recognition to the layman but on their debut single, they show their mettle. The first 0:35 of “We Get On Somehow” would have you believe you’re in store for a ambient pop song but that is just burying the lead. Once the drums kick in, you realize you’re on an uplifting synth-pop journey. With the many vocalists in the band, the harmonies are sublime and the overwhelming message of optimism is the perfect sentiment for a Friday.
