Premiere: Good Night Gold Dust “Better Gone”

Minnesota’s band, Good Night Gold Dust are preparing to release their second studio EP, It Could Have Been You. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the new single “Better Gone.”

The track opens with singer/songwriter Laura Schultz’ vocals lilting over droning synths and dirge-like drums; it is almost reminiscent of a slower version of the Cardigans‘ “My Favourite Game.” As the song unfolds, it becomes increasingly dancier. Guitars hits on the chorus remind me of INXS‘ “Need You Tonight” but no matter how upbeat the song gets, there is an undercurrent of melancholy as Schultz croons “it feels much better when you’re not around.” As we fall back into cooler weather, “Better Gone” reminds us that moving forward can be painful but ultimately fulfilling.
