Hoodie Allen “Show Me What You’re Made Of”

There is a bit of a disconnect between the cover art for Hoodie Allen‘s new single “Show Me What You’re Made Of” and the song’s content. The cover art shows Allen in a typical introvert/uncomfortable position: arms crossed around his stomach, a bit of concern draped across his face. “Show Me What You’re Made Of” is anything but that. In the track, we see the once humble rapper become increasingly flashy. He raps about sitting courtside with beautiful women and your girl is “hashtag with a rapper now.” It is a little disconcerting to hear considering Hoodie started off straddling the line between nerd rap and wordplay extraordinaire. Increasingly he seems to be moving towards mainstream hip hop. Honestly, the song is catchy and he sings the chorus very well, but the lyrics just seem a bit lacking.
