Erica von Trapp, aka Jane Machine is preparing to release her debut album, Back Seat Driver. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the album’s latest single “I Hope We Win.” Mixing bleeping synth bass and electronic drums, the music has a definitively retro sound. Von Trapp’s reverbed vocals are reminiscent of St Vincent. But be weary, the song sounds upbeat but it just narrowly plasters over anxious lyrics like “I’m crawling inside because I’m soft.” Von Trapp clearly has a gift for writing danceable sad pop.
