Premiere: LowRay “8 Track Tapes”

Minneapolis-based duo, LowRay are preparing to release their new album, Friends and the Fakers on November 9th. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere their new lyric video for “8 Track Tapes.”

If you are not in your 40s, there is a good chance you do not remember 8-track tapes. The only reason I know them is there was an 8-track player in my high school art classroom. We would listen to such classics as Frank Sinatra “It Was a Very Good Year” and Englebert Humperdinck’s “Release Me (and Let Me Love Again).” LowRay’s “8 Track Tapes” sounds nothing like those but the lyric video does bring me right back to art class. Lyrics to the track appear magically on 8-track tapes as they go by in a conveyor belt-like fashion. If you like power pop bands like Big Star or the Posies and you have nostalgia for your ’68 Mustang, LowRay is right in your wheelhouse.
