Premiere: Madam West “Warm Bodies”

Brooklyn band, Madam West are preparing to release their new album, Warm Bodies on March 23rd. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the album’s titular track. Despite the band’s name, there is nothing punny about Madam West’s music. “Warm Bodies” mixes elements of indie rock, synth pop, soul, and blues to create a sexy, cool song. Frontwoman Sophie Chernin’s sultry vocals over a rim-and-hi-hat beat evokes images of a smoky New York jazz bar with an extended bluesy guitar solo separating the verses. Once you seem comfortable with what the song is, a wonky synth solo outro turns your notion on its head. It reminds me of a female-fronted Spoon; the band seems so versatile that they can throw nearly anything at you and it still sounds cool.

The band plays a hometown show tonight in Brooklyn at C’mon Everybody. It is not to be missed.
