Los Angeles based singer/songwriter, Monogem is preparing to release her new album, So Many Ways on October 18th. The album’s lead single is “Soy Lo Que Soy.” Translating to “I Am What I Am,” the song marks a milestone for Monogem who said this is “the beginning of a new era.” She continued “A time where I feel comfortable to explore my Mexican heritage through my art.” Not only is the song completely in Spanish but it features a take on a reggaeton beat with traditional Latin guitars and little electronic flourishes. You can hear Monogem’s roots in soul and jazz in her vocals that keeps with the classic but modern feel of the song.
