+Aziz bounced between his native land of Kuwait and the US his entire life. Settling in New Orleans, he recorded his upcoming EP, SoHo Spirit that will release on Friday, July 17. Surviving the Golden Age is pleased to bring you the EP’s lead single “RMDN.” +Aziz dabbles in a lesser known Arab style of music called Khaleeji. Generally characterized by heavy use of the oud and tabl drum, +Aziz incorporates a bit more western influences. The tight guitar arpeggios that begin “RMDN” could easily have come from a Sufjan Stevens track while little electronic flourishes reminds the listener this isn’t traditional Khaleeji. What “RMDN” is is a beautiful track that although esoteric still crosses many musical and cultural boundaries.
