Argentinian singer/songwriter, Panda Elliot rocked SxSW earlier this year. Now she is premiering her cover of the Cure classic “Lovesong” exclusively on Surviving the Golden Age. The track begins stripped down with just Panda’s emotive vocals and acoustic guitar. Slowly other instruments are added in–initially a little reverbed lead guitar followed by fuzzed out bass. Drums never enter the fray so the song often sounds more sparsely instrumented than it actually is. In the end, the achievement on “Lovesong” isn’t just in doing a deft adaptation of the song but also in the production and the pathos created by Panda Elliot.
