It has been six long years since, Sky Ferreira‘s debut full length, Night Time, My Time. In that time, she has focused on acting appearing in Baby Driver and an episode of Twin Peaks but 2019 sees her return to music. Her upcoming sophomore album is called Masochism and the lead single is “Downhill Lullaby.”
The Kate Bush-inspired track is darker and less poppy than anything on Night Time, My Time. Filled with strings and live drums, the instrumental sounds like Murder Ballads-era Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. With Ferreira singing in a deeper register, her voice is almost as gravelly as Cave’s. The song is a new direction for Ferreira but at least it is an exciting one.
