Sleigh Bells just dropped their first new music of 2016, “Rule Number One.” What made Sleigh Bells’ early years so compelling was the mixture of brutal distorted music paired with Alexis Krauss’ sweetly sung vocals lilting over it. “Rule Number One” finds Krauss attempting to match the music’s ferocity. It gives the track a little 90s alternative feel, like Courtney Love yelling “go on take everything” on Hole‘s “Violet.” It is not bad but it certainly sees the band turning away from what was once their hallmark.
