#TuesdayTop10: March Madness

ncaa, tournament, bracketsWith selection Sunday happening this past weekend and NCAA tournament starting on Thursday, everyone needs a soundtrack to fill their brackets out to.

10. Cloud Cult “6 Days to Madness”
Minnesota’s Cloud Cult is probably very sad with this year’s tourney as their Golden Gophers missed the big dance. We have to go one state over to Wisconsin to find the nearest dance participant. Wisconsin’s prospects are looking pretty good. Although some people are pick the first round upset for Montana, in all likelihood Wisconsin should skate until the match up with Syracuse in the Sweet 16. There I fear their story will end.

09. Oh No “Madness”
Oxnard, California’s rapper/producer, Oh No is not located very close to any of the California schools invited to the NCAA tournament so I am going to align him with Long Beach State. For Long Beach State, “oh no” is right. Not many people are predicting them to upset their first round opponents, New Mexico and if they do, a second round match up against Louisville should do them in.

08. Martin Denny “Jungle Madness”
Born in New York City, Martin Denny is referred to as many as the “father of exotica.” The “father” of New York basketball right now is Jim Boeheim. His Syracuse Orange are a number one seed and many feel a surefire Final Four team with their patented zone defense and the abilities of Scoop Jardine and Fab Melo. Only time will tell if they can get past tough tasks in Vanderbilt and Ohio State.

07. Voodoo Glow Skulls “Method to This Madness”
Riverside, CA’s Voodoo Glow Skulls are located fairly close to California Berkley. It is debatable whether or not California will even make the “tournament” proper as they are playing a 12 seed play in game against South Florida. If they overcome South Florida, a tough Temple team awaits in the first round.

06. Kool & The Gang “Summer Madness (Fil Lavin BigBootsEdit)”
Who was cooler than New Jersey’s Kool & the Gang in the 70s and 80s? Now New Jersey is more known for Chris Christie and being home to some bad basketball. Basketball so bad that no team from New Jersey even made the tournament. Their neighbors to the West at Temple are in the big dance and look to do some damage. The Owls are a dangerous 5 seed with a sure win in the first round and a chance to upset a Michigan team that looked shaky at best in the Big Ten tournament.

05. Transplants “Madness”
Punk supergroup, Transplants are from San Diego just as are the Aztecs of San Diego State. After bursting onto the scene last year with a great regular season, San Diego State seems like the new Gonzaga, a low ranked team that has the constant threat to go deep into the tournament. The Aztecs will have to overcome an early round match up against a dangerous NC State team to have a shot.

04. Spring Heeled Jack USA “Mass Appeal Madness”
Connecticut’s own, Spring Heeled Jack USA may have broken up over a decade ago but many of their members still play a prominent role in the ska scene. The Uconn Huskies are hoping to play a prominent role in this year’s tourney after winning it all last year. With no Kemba Walker this year, it should be a challenge. If they make it out of the first round, they go up against tournament favorites Kentucky in the second round.

03. Rich Boy “The Madness”
Hailing from Mobile, the closest school to Rich Boy is Alabama. If the Crimson Tide want out of the first round, they will have to beat a tough Creighton team. Unfortunately, out of the first round is probably the best Alabama can hope for with number 1 seed North Carolina waiting for them in the second round.

02. Eels “My Descent into Madness”
Although the Eels are based out of California, their lead singer/songwriter Mr. E was born in Virginia. Virginia this year is represented by Norfolk State University The school’s first time in the big dance should be cut short with a tough first round match up against Missouri.

01. Del The Funky Homosapien “Madness”
The Oakland-based emcee, Del the Funky Homosapien is closest in proximity to Saint Mary’s. With a tough first round match up, many people are picking Purdue with the upset. Even if St. Mary’s makes it out of the first round, a second round match up with two-seed Kansas awaits. From Del’s incredible Deltron 3030 album, “Madness” is a prime mid-album cut.
