In 2003, Seattle-by-way-of-Tulsa, OK band, Aqueduct released their album, Power Ballads. The band made fans of Ben Gibbard, Isaac Brock, and Starlight Mints before inking a deal with Barsuk Records to release their follow up album, I Sold Gold in 2005. Twenty-one years later, Power Ballads is finally being released on all streaming platforms. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the single, “Social Scenic.”
It is immediately apparent why someone like Gibbard would like Aqueduct. “Social Scenic” begins with the type of droning keyboards that were a staple of Something About Airplanes. Although David Terry’s vocals aren’t quite as sweet as Gibbard’s, it does have similar diaristic lyrics and bedroom pop aesthetic.
