Big Data are preparing to release their new album, 2.0 on March 24. The album’s latest single is “Snowed In” featuring Rivers Cuomo. The track was inspired by Edward Snowden, who famously and controversially leaked classified information about the NSA’s surveillance programs to the media. The lyrics envision the character speaking from the perspective of the NSA, alternating between his own internal monologue and his public statements to the press. While lyrically an interesting concept, the story is still Big Data’s production which is a masterclass in paranoid synth pop. It’s manic, it’s danceable, it’s really fucking good.
