Mariya Takeuchi is one of Japan’s best-selling artists. Her 1984 classic “Plastic Love” was influential in the city pop genre, mixing elements of disco and R&B. Now the track gets a modern adaptation thanks to San Francisco based singer, Cindy Zhang. The cover mixes elements of acoustic post-bossa nova, downtempo, and chill-out. It ends up sounding somewhere between Thievery Corporation and Seu Jorge but mostly in Japanese.
