husband-and-wife Crushed Out have been pumping out surf-inspired indie rock since the turn of the decade. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to give you an exclusive first listen to their new album Alien Ocean. Filled with surf guitar, bassy analog synths, and Hammond organ, the album has a retro sound firmly planted in the 1960s where surf and psychedelia first met.
Similarly, the lyrics play with typical themes like love and the beach with mysticism and kitschy sci-fi. “Big Wooly” is a searing stoner rock track using a wooly mammoth as a sexual innuendo. Similarly, the album’s second single “Love Howl” uses wolf imagery and ties it within a love song.
As a whole, Alien Ocean is the band’s most cohesive work to date. It is officially released on September 30th, available on limited 12” vinyl LP (preorder here), CD, as well as all digital formats.
