Comprised of Allan Vest of Starlight Mints fame and his wife Barb, doubleVee are preparing to release their new EP, Songs for Birds and Bats on April 12th. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere their new video for “Ladder for the People.”
The song mixes elements of new wave and garage band revival to create an invigorating sound. The video mimics the band’s retro chic style by using a mid-century modern home decorated with quirky art pieces by Joe Slack, Marilyn Artus, Rea Baldridge and more. Even the duo’s matching outfits are reminiscent of Devo or Robert Palmer dancers.
There is a certain darkness to the video. The storyline is of a man who seems at peace but is always spying on others. The band says it “takes a peek at a man who lives his life like a king until he realizes he’s his own worst enemy…it’s a rallying cry for peace and the ending of greedy schemes.” A message we can all get behind.
