*Stefon voice* Dallas’ hottest nightclub is Silo. Located in a former grain storage building in Dallas’ design district, this club has it all: a bottle service stand that doubles as the box office, multiple men in cowboy hats and mesh, and a 61-year-old Fatboy Slim on the ones-and-twos.
While it was icy outside, the weather inside was warm and inviting. With an eclectic set of visuals projected on the screen behind him, Fatboy Slim was in rare form: pumping his fists, swinging his headphones above his head like it was a lasso, and running out from behind the turntables to high five members of the crowd. All the while, he bumped some of his biggest hits like “Right Here, Right Now” and “Praise You” along with newer tracks like “Bus Stop Please” and “Eat Sleep Rave Repeat.”
Fatboy Slim’s energy is most impressive but second most is the seamlessness of his set. Throwing in Dallas specific samples, you can tell it is curated for the location but it still feels like something practiced and polished.
In a recent interview with The Sun, Fatboy Slim admitted to losing his passion for making new music. He said “you can’t make music unless you’re absolutely passionate about it and it drives you from the moment you wake up in the morning. I just don’t seem to feel like that any more. I feel like that about DJing.”
Seeing Fatboy Slim live is to see that passion in full force and he clearly still has it.
