Today, Futurebirds release their new album, Baba Java. On the album, the band covers fellow Athenians R.E.M.‘s classic “(Don’t Go Back To) Rockville.” Futurebirds show off their laidback country sound while celebrating the rock history of their hometown. Perhaps that is why their new album is the first release on the new Jittery Joe’s label. Jittery Joe’s cafe was established in 1994 next to the 40 Watt Club in downtown Athens. Originally open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, Joe’s was a hangout for musicians and students alike. The establishment is perhaps best known for Jeff Mangum‘s album Live at Jittery Joe’s.
