Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, Heather Christie is preparing to become a first time mother later this month. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere her final pre-motherhood single, “The Way.”
Taking influence from artists like Portishead and Maya Jane Coles, the track mixes elements of downtempo, R&B, and electro. Delicately sampling her own vocals, Christie creates a tapestry of word sounds so it is hard to pick up exactly what are lyrics and what are loops and glitches. That is okay because the song creates plenty of pathos through haunting synths and esoteric percussion.
