Iggy Azalea possesses charisma that’s hard to resist. You can see it best on her opening verse on “Fancy,” where her words just drip with swagger and are made more emphatic by her Australian accent. So while Azalea may doesn’t do much wrong here, “Fancy”’s chorus isn’t strong enough and frankly feels a bit lazy. It might be a good dance song in a vacuum, but when studied a bit more closely, the song ultimately leaves you cold. The beats and bass lines make the song appear on the verge of excitement for its entire duration, though they never actually deliver on that promise. In the end, it never really feels like it goes anywhere. Furthermore, Charli XCX’s isn’t particularly attention-grabbing. Azalea is a promising young artist, but she’d be best served to leave this one off of her debut album, expected in March.
