For a man who has spent the last three years being one of the most talked about rappers in the game, Kendrick Lamar is not in the business of disappointing, however that is exactly what he does on his new single. The Isley Brothers’ sampling track “i” sees Kendrick take a serious step toward pop. While “Swimming Pools (Drank)” cracked Billboard’s top 25, it seemed like a bit of a reluctant pop song. There is no reluctance with “i.” Between the repetitive chorus over a familiar soul sample and the tamer-than-usual lyrics, the song might be the bland that the populous looks for but my guess is not many Kendrick diehards will be pleased with the track.
