It is incredible how many people have no problem co-opting Human League‘s “Don’t You Want Me” beat in the name of making new new wave. Indeed Alex Winston’s new single “We Got Nothing” is another offender. Dripped in 80s synth pop pathos, the track sounds very familiar without directly ripping anything off. Her voice is the saving grace. Winston is reminiscent of Robyn in the fact that she can sing pop songs while still sounding full of real emotion; it is a talent which is not easy to come by as is bore out on radio everyday.
