New: Kanye West featuring John Legend “Play the Game”

With the release of his 30+ minute short film, Runaway, Kanye didn’t feel the need to release a G.O.O.D. Friday track this week. That’s a little disappointing for those of us that hate watching videos online (you never wondered why I never post videos?). But Runaway did feature a new Kanye track. The track is called “Play the Game” and it features John Legend. At just over a minute it is pretty short, but its always worth a download to hear a little Legend. Check it out.

Jacked the piano line from Aphex Twin’s “Avril 14th”. Make your own beats, Kanye.

jess, were you born yesterday or do you not understand sampling and hip hop in general?

  • Max says:

    +1 Alex

Jess, you need to understand beats get reused in EVERY single genre. Definitely born yesterday, Alex.

Except people usually call it a remix.

Sampling is fine, but when you take this much out of a song, speed it up and add bass line + vocals, that’s not creating something completely original.

If he gives credit where credit is due, I don’t see a problem. If he tries to play it off like he created the entire thing, that will piss people off.

even if it’s sampled, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck. fuck this song. fuck kanye west and his diamond teeth. way to take something special and make it uninspired.

  • Saad says:

The name is incorrect. The title of this track is “Blame Game”. Kanye has mentioned this quite a few times and that is what Legend is saying.

  • WilliamJacob says:

sampling is the foundation of hip hop, and kanye is paying aphex twin to use the sample so i don’t understand what the issue is here.

  • Adam Morgan says:

I think its important to say, Kanye is not passing this off as his own work. If this track is released on an album it will say in the liner notes where the sample comes from. I think it is cool to have Kanye paying homage to Aphex Twins. Obviously if he is sampling them it means he’s heard the song and enjoyed it enough to want to make it his own.
