Rolling Stone confirms that Mark Linkous, the man behind Sparklehorse, has died. His publicity released this statement: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.” In 1996, Linkous ingested a mix of Valium and antidepressants which left him paralyzed. Still, Linkous went on to record 1999’s Good Morning Spider, 2001’s It’s A Wonderful Life and 2006’s Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain. His last album was 2009’s Dark Night of the Soul which was a collaboration with Danger Mouse. The album featured appearances from Vic Chessnut who committed suicide late in 2009. It is unknown how old Linkous was or how he took his own life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
