I went to my first basement show in like seven year a few weeks ago to catch Spook Houses. Seeing the New Jersey quartet in sweaty corridors with a bunch of high schoolers was worth the awkwardness. They were fun, energetic, and as you can hear in “Bad Sounds,” catchy as hell without being stereotypical or complacent. Their debut album, Trying is released today.
