Covers are an interesting thing. Some covers can be as good or better than the original (see Jimi Hendrix “All Along the Watchtower). On the other hand, covers can be repugnant (see Counting Crows‘ cover of Joni Mitchell‘s “Big Yellow Taxi”). Stars In Stereo new cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” is decidedly in the middle. While I appreciate having a female take on the violently sexual lyrics, the nu-metal backing leave it feeling a little Evanescence for me.
