Superchunk are preparing the release their new album, I Hate Music. Coincidentally, the lyric “I hate music” kick off the album’s new single, “Me & You & Jackie Mittoo.” The full line is “I hate music/what is it worth?/can’t bring anyone back to this earth.” Contemplative? Yes. A little bit depressing? Sure. But it is just a line in a song that is as power pop as anything Superchunk has ever written. The guitar riffs actually remind me a little of “Jessie’s Girl.” See if you agree.
