On June 24th, Young Mister will release his self-titled debut album. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to give you the first listen of the album.
Although songwriter Steven Fiore is from Chapel Hill, Young Mister’s album is steeped in the sounds of the west coast. Opening track “The Best Part” sounds like a collaboration between Tommy James and Huey Lewis and the News with its sun soaked guitars and brass exclamations. More country-tinged tracks like “Carolina” have hints of Dwight Yoakam in them. The album’s most memorable track might its closer, “Pasadena.” An upbeat love song to southern California, the track deftly mixes an acoustic guitar backbone with electric lead and big brass flourishes. It leaves a lasting impression of not only Young Mister’s excellent instrumentation and arrangement but also his lyrical abilities.
