There have been plenty of covers of Britney Spears‘ “Toxic” since the song was released in 2004. There was an acoustic cover by the Chapin Sisters, a German country interpretation by the BossHoss, a piano driven version by Yael Naïm, a lounge singer rendition by Richard Cheese, and of course there was a Punk Goes Pop rendering by A Static Lullaby. All that is to say: there is no way to be sure there has not been an electro swing variation of the track before but I believe Betty Booom might be the first. The South African producer keeps the song’s iconic string melody but adds the delightfully unhinged electro swing drums. It adds a fun manic energy to an already off-kilter song.
