Kyle Thomas (King Tuff) continues to break almost two years of radio silence since his incredible 2012 self-titled with “Black Moon Spell,” the booming eponymous single from his new album, due in late September on Sub Pop. Thomas and co. sound confident and at-home throughout this gritty Detroit garage-rock throwback, but especially so in the track’s last minute and half. This year is proving to be one of Sub Pop’s strongest (from Shabazz Palaces to clipping. to J Mascis) and if this single is an indicator of the direction that Black Moon Spell will take, it will fall among friends in the top ten of many end-of-year lists.
