Premiere: Matthew Heller “Firebrand”

Portland singer/songwriter, Matthew Heller is preparing to release his new single, “Firebrand” on November 1st. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the track.

Heavy piano, drums, and bass work as the backdrop for Heller’s falsetto vocals. It ends up sounding somewhere between Ben Folds Five and Portugal the Man. It is easy to hear the track as kooky psychedelic rock but that ignores the lyrics’ deeper meaning. “‘Firebrand’ is about the duality of being a United States citizen, while also suffering under the reign of a repressive regime,” said Heller. “I wrote ‘Firebrand’ to inspire people to fight and express their rage, but within both those things, to also find and act with love.”
