With a chorus featuring an interpolation of Nina Simone‘s “Feeling Good,” Austin Dean Ashford‘s new single “U KNO” feels both familiar and new. Ashford describes the song’s origins as “originally a live song I played on the ukulele when I would tour around the country to small coffee shops, but once I connected with Gregatron and made the studio version it became an instant hit with my friends.” The smooth chorus gives way to rapped verses where Ashford shows off his lyrical prowess with plenty of witty wordplay. It makes “U KNO” an exciting first glimpse at Ashford’s upcoming sophomore release.
