Portland, OR’s Baby Combat recently released their EP, A is for Average. The opening track, “Blackout Drunk Comedy,” showcases the band’s jangle pop meets slack rock style. The opening guitar arpeggios could be confused for the intro to The Killers‘ “Mr. Brightside” but that is where the comparisons end. Noel Yeo’s dry vocals remind me of E from the Eels. The lyrics about Yeo’s sobriety gives the song its emotional core which is ultimately a happy one.
