Nevada City, California band, Beautiful Dudes are preparing to release their new album, Radio on November 8th via Mama Bird Recording Co. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere their new single, “The Shape I’m In.”
Lead singer/songwriter, Tom Bevitori said of the song “It’s about burning out. I wrote this song about coming back to reality after living in a ‘pink cloud.’ The pink cloud is a term used in recovery to explain fleeting feelings of contentment and joy. It felt so empowering to believe in the concept of freedom, and to be such a positive force with a mindset for change. But when the cloud went away, I was left with the weight of life, wavering health, and the emotional burdens of society.”
That emotional burden is heard in the lyrics but not in the song’s music. “The Shape I’m In” has a fuzzy, power-pop exterior sounding somewhere between the Ramones and My Bloody Valentine. It serves as a reminder that sometimes the catchiest songs are cover for some of the darkest emotions.
