New York rapper, Double A.B. recently released his album, Devils & Drugs via Man Bites Dog Records. The album’s latest single is “Rembrandt Death Chant.” Featuring Napoleon Da Legend and Breeze Brewin, each rapper takes their turn flowing over Parallel Thought guitar-infused boom bap beat. The most surprising part of the song is the chorus which name checks Gilbert and Sullivan’s 1879 opera The Pirates of Penzance using it to rhyme with the titular Rembrandt. It adds a layer of unexpected esotericism.
