London-based musician Max RM plans to release several stand alone singles in 2021. Following February’s “Your Hold” and last month’s “Thinking & Talking,” Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere his latest effort, “Emerald.”
“The song is about coming to terms with the end of a whirlwind romance,” said Max. “I wanted to capture a sense of the bewilderment in the aftermath of a breakup and to depict the fragile nature of relationships.”
The song isn’t typical melancholic singer/songwriter fare. It does have an acoustic guitar backbone but additions like piano, harmonium, and haunting back vocals gives it a California psych-pop sensibility. It
ends up feeling as much Elliott Smith (one of Max’s stated biggest influences) as it does Pete Yorn.
