Music in Marketing: Elk City “Totally Free”

If you watched the Superbowl, you were not the only one. That has to feel good to know that you were not alone in your television watching decisions on Sunday night. You may have noticed a commercial during the Supebowl for the Cadillac ATS called “The Green Hell.” If you watched the commercial on mute it would not be very noteworthy unless you take note of cars with hideous paint jobs. With sound however you may have noticed the track in the background, Elk City‘s “Totally Free.” It is interesting that General Motors would tap relatively unknown band for the high-profile debut of its new luxury compact Cadillac model but the guttural mix of tremolo guitar and finger snaps give the track that commercial viability. Definitely not the best commercial but a big break for Elk City.
