In September, Salim Nourallah released his seventh album, Somewhere South of Sane. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the video for his new single, “Rainbow Dolphins.”
The video follows Nourallah’s surrealist lyrics so we see flying slices of chocolate cake, a bear dancing with a broom and a dolphin spray painting a rainbow. The song isn’t just a bunch of non sequiturs; at its core, “Rainbow Dolphins” is a love song so we see a relationship develop over finger-sandwiches at a picnic and it blossom into a kaleidoscope of hearts. Animator Rachel Seropian deserves a lot of credit for creating a video that is as beautiful as its source material and perhaps even more complex.
