Premiere: Tod Lippy “More in Common”

The former creator of the award-winning arts journal ESOPUS, Tod Lippy is preparing to release his new album, Yearbook on June 25th. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere his new single, “More in Common.”

Tod describes the song as “about how much the adult Tod shares with that 14- or 15-year-old Tod (‘awkward boy to awkward man’) but it’s also meant to be a broader statement about how all of us, regardless of our backgrounds, share much more than we may sometimes think, including the scars we all carry around from childhood (or from the process of leaving that childhood behind).”

Over a backdrop of gorgeous piano and atmospheric drums, Lippy’s reverbed vocals soar. With the track’s unique song structure and lo-fi recording, it sounds like a mix between Elton John and the Microphones. It is catchy but with weighty lyrics and a strong emotional pull–a triumph of both songwriting and musicianship.
