There are plenty of artists that I believe to be overhyped by the blogosphere but the Avalanches are not one of them. Their 2000 debut album, Since I Left You may be one of turntablism’s defining moments. Their long await sophomore album, Wildflower will be released on July 8th. The album’s lead single is “Frankie Sinatra.” Unlike Since I Left You, the cut features vocals recorded specifically for the instrumental from Danny Brown and MF Doom. With the oompah band beat and the layered samples, “Frankie Sinatra” is just as esoteric as anything on their debut album. It may be different with the guest verses but it is still just as good as you remember the Avalanches.
