Daphne Parker Powell, fka Daphne Lee Martin, is preparing to release her first album under her new monicker, The Starter Wife on October 14th. Leading up to the album release, she has been releasing a series of cover songs. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the cover of R.E.M.‘s “We All Go Back To Where We Belong.”
“We All Go Back To Where We Belong” was R.E.M.’s final single, released in 2011. Parker Powell and violinist, Kieran Ledwidge stay fairly true to the original. The song still has an orchestra folk feel, albeit a bit more stripped down. Powell’s emotive vocal performance draw the perfect balance of melancholy and hopefulness looking forward which is right in line with the themes of her new album. It is a beautiful cover to usher in a new album and new phase of life.
