Premiere: David Messier “Keeping Up With Fashion”

Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter, David Messier released his album, Waiting for Eldridge back in February. He has so far released two videos from the album for the tracks “Franklin’s Key” and “Everything Breaks My Heart.” Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the third music video from the album for the song “Keeping Up With Fashion.”

Of the ten Americana songs on Waiting for Eldridge, “Keeping Up With Fashion” maybe the most tongue-in-cheek. Director Teresa Jolie gives the song the appropriately cheeky visual. The video features Messier playing a divebar filled with an interesting cast of characters. As Messier sings the line “the people on TV will be uglier than me,” the camera pans across the room to a bearded woman. There is a runway flanked by mannequins which Messier walks down as do other characters like a blind boy, a leather clad man with a high flat top haircut, and a diva with makeup that makes him looks like the Batman villain Two-Face. It is an endlessly fascinating video, one I wish I could’ve been a part of the casting couch for.
