Los Angeles-based Death Hags are getting into the Halloween spirit with their new single, “Le Vampire,” a cover of Stella‘s French pop classic. Mixing pounding drums and fuzzed out bass, the track keeps the original’s yé-yé girl* feel while adding a garage rock edge.
*for all the yé-yé girl fanatics out there, I understand Stella’s whole schtick was mocking the yé-yé girl scene by playing an exaggerated version of the genre. Nevertheless, she still was performing in the genre’s style to create her satire.
