Premiere: Disaster Fantasy “Beams”

Former Schoolyard Heroes singer, Ryann Donnelly has teamed up with Journal of Popular Noise founder, Byron Kalet to form Disaster Fantasy. The duo are preparing to release their second single, “Beams.” Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the track.

Mixing elements of electro-pop and new wave, the song mixes 80s sounds with modern pop similar to La Roux‘s “Bulletproof.” Kalet said of the composition: “I was really into ’Space Age Love Song’ by Flock of Seagulls at the time so I added in some space-y guitar and delay. I failed at recreating the definitive Flock of Seagulls sound, but succeeded in defining the Disaster Fantasy sound.”

Ryann Donnelly’s reverbed vocals lilt over the topl her smooth delivery juxtaposed with the running synth bass. It creates a dynamic track rooted in the 80s but still sleek and modern.
